Smart Phones
ny are confused by the wide-ranging spectrum of mobile phone models and capabilities. For those seeking a phone with the greatest expanse of functionality, there is no better choice than a smart phone.
The smart phone is simply a cellular phone that offers higher capability above the average mobile phone. This simple definition is unfortunately complicated by the lack of an industry standard definition. One may see a smart phone as one that offers a complete keyboard with internet and email functionality, and some may only view a smart phone as a phone with a full operating system (OS) and applications.
Smart phones, as a whole, carry the ability to function as much as a cell phone as a PDA.
Most have complete email capability, web browsing, calendar support, and contact support. Extended functionality offered by various manufacturers and models include GPS or A-GPS navigation, multimedia playback, document reading or editing, integrated camera, touch screen, etc. The smart phones available on the market today are characterized by their respective operating systems, which are:
* Windows Mobile
* iPhone OS
* Symbian OS
* RIM Blackberry
* Palm OS
* Linux-based OS
Windows Mobile is a platform developed by Microsoft that supports mobile devices including smart phones. It is close in appearance and features to the desktop Windows operating systems, including a very large selection of third party applications. Windows Mobile applications can add an unlimited functionality to a smart phone within hardware limits, but some examples are Skype support, instant messaging over AIM or other protocols, RSS feeds, and media players that extend the built-in file format ability.
The iPhone OS is built by Apple to run on their iPhone. The iPhone OS is actually a stripped down, but complete version of the original OS X operating system. This OS supports media playback identical to the iPod line, but with a layout designed to take advantage of the iPhone?s multi-touch screen. It also supports a portable version of the iTunes store, third-party applications through an application store, a full version of the Safari web browser, full e-mail support with HTML and attachment viewing, maps via Google, YouTube, calendar and contacts support, photo viewing, etc.
The Symbian OS is developed and owned by Symbian Ltd., and while similar in functionality to the Windows Mobile operating system, enjoys 65% of all smart phone market share. This OS has all of the basic smart phone features that any other smart phone has, but also an extensive library of third party applications that provide the phone with nearly unlimited functionality (with respect to hardware limitations). Some phone manufacturers that utilize the Symbian OS are Nokia, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson.
The Blackberry, Palm, and Linux-based operating systems are the last three operating systems employed by smart phones today, and share the main functionality of all other smart phones, as well as third-party applications. These systems are similar in their narrow smart phone deployment. The Blackberry OS only runs on Blackberry devices, and the Palm OS runs primarily on the Treo devices. The Linux-based systems are unique in that it is not its own platform, but rather a base for other platforms used by Samsung, Panasonic, NEC, and Vodafone, to name a few.

Valuable Information On Cell Phone
A mobile radiotelephone, often in an automobile, that uses a network of short-range transmitters located in overlapping cells throughout a region, with a central station making connections to regular telephone lines. Cell phone is also called as mobile telephone. Professional cell phone greetings are a simple, cost effective way to professionalize your image. First let’s look at what an unlocked cell phone. Some cell phones are designed to use a Subscriber Identification Module card or SIM card for short. A SIM card is a microchip that stores subscriber data. The SIM card is issued by a carrier and provides cell service by activating any phone into which it is inserted. A locked cell phone, however, will only recognize a SIM card from a particular carrier. If the cell phone is unlocked, it will recognize a SIM card from any carrier. The “lock” is software setting that keeps the cell phone “loyal” to one carrier.
The advancement in digital technology and microelectronics has included many applications like alarm clocks, calculators, Internet browsers, and voice memos for recording short verbal reminders, while at the same time making such telephones vulnerable to certain software viruses. Not only this cellular phones ad come up with camera which has the capability to send these photos to another cellular phone or computer. In many countries with inadequate wire-based telephone networks, cellular telephone systems have provided a means of more quickly establishing a national telecommunications network.
Do not allow children to use a cell phone, except for emergencies. The developing organs of a fetus or child are the most likely to be sensitive to any possible effects of exposure to electromagnetic fields.
If cell phones played a limited role in society there would be no debating their safety. Wireless communication is packaged into hip, little slide and flip phones that defy location. Talk when and where you want, take business on the road and enjoy a growing range of extra features that deliver music, video, messaging and Internet capabilities. Extraordinarily intuitive and convenient, though they are, cell phones are powerful telecommunications devices.
Well I’ve reached the point with cell phones where I feel the need to lay down the law. There are some real abuses of wireless technology being perpetrated all around us, and the time has come to create some social order out of the cell phone chaos. This is by no means an exhaustive list simply because as the technology evolves, new annoying traits will surely emerge. But commandments usually come in tens, so think of this as the first Ten Commandments of cell phone etiquette, with amendments to follow.
Telecommunications system in which a portable or mobile radio transmitter and receiver, or “telephone,” is linked via microwave radio frequencies to base transmitter and receiver stations that connect the user to a conventional telephone network. The geographic region served by a cellular system is subdivided into areas called cells. Each cell has a central base station and two sets of assigned transmission frequencies; one set is used by the base station and the other by mobile telephones. To prevent radio interference, each cell uses frequencies different from those used by its surrounding cells, but cells sufficiently distant from each other can use the same frequencies. When a mobile telephone leaves one cell and enters another, the telephone call is transferred from one base station and set of transmission frequencies to the next using a computerized switching system.

Entering the World of Communication Through Cell Phones
Mobile Phones, more commonly known as Cellular Phones or Cell Phones are electronic gadgets that are portable and offer convenient means of communication. Cell phones combine technology with mobility in telecommunication. Over the years, cell phones had gained the interest of the public leading to extreme popularity making it the world’s most used means of communication. Nowadays, some people even prefer having cell phones than maintaining regular land lines due to its mobility, cost-efficiency, entertaining features and capacity to maintain a personal directory making it a multi-purpose gadget.
Current advancements in cell phones also allow sending of text messages via Short Message Service or SMS; and depending on the features that support the cell phone unit, pictures, music, videos and animated picture messages can also be forwarded or sent to other cell phone users via Multimedia Messaging Service. These features makes messaging and communication interesting, fun and engaging.
Communicating messages through calls, SMS and MMS via cell phone is possible anytime and anywhere provided that certain considerations are met including the availability of cell site, battery life and the features that support the cell phones. Cell phones are long-range electronic devices that connect to cellular network of base stations which have links to the public switched telephone networks making it a highly useful portable device.
Like in standard telephones, proper phone etiquettes should also be practiced when using a cell phone. Another concept of a cell phone is that it is personal. A cell phone contact number is more often than not, designated to one person. That is why when trying to get hold of a particular person, calling him through his cell phone guarantees higher chances of actually speaking to that person first hand than calling his office phone or residential phone number wherein other people may answer the call. Calling the cell phone number of the person you want to get in touch with saves time because it means calling the person directly.
Cell phones are powerful devices. Breakthrough innovation in communication was made possible using a cell phone device which is supported by the network provider wherein one can actually see the person on the other line. This led to the popularity of video cell phones or video phones. The world of cell phone advancements and technology make the world seem so small, and since e-mails and internet browsing are also made possible using cell phones, it adds convenience and enables one to save the time and energy in getting hold of a computer anytime and anywhere.

The Cell Phone
The cell phone industry has come a long way since the inception of the private use personal cellular phone. In the late eighties and very early nineties it was a huge deal if you had a corded cellular phone in your car. The personal cell phone had terrible reception and was so large that you couldn’t exactly put it your pocket for convenient usage. To look back now and compare the cell phone industry’s first amazing wonders with the sleek razor phones of today, the first cell phones were actually laughable, but of course we didn’t know it.
Cell phones operate on a basic frequency notion of cell sites and the use of handover to be competitive in the industry. Using technology that most people aren’t interested in provided it is working when they are using their cell phone, handover is at the heart of the cell phone competition craze to provide the network with “fewest dropped calls.”
While cell phone technology and even some cell phone usage has been around since the mid nineteen forties, most people hadn’t heard of the usefulness of a cell phone until the early to mid eighties, where cell phones were predominately car phones.
Cell phone technology has grown immensely since cell phone usage has hit a massive boom stemming from the late nineties to early two thousands that has increased the capability of the average cell phone. Cell phones were once upon a time utilized only for placing or receiving a phone call. Now they come with the ability to text and instant message, take pictures and videos, do math, download information and music from the internet, wake you up with their plethora of alarms, download e-mail, and perhaps in the next year or two they will be able to walk to the dog and do the dishes. Cell phone technology is advancing at an amazing rate in an attempt to annihilate cell phone competitors.
The boom in cell phone popularity has led to various cell phone related offshoots such as cell phone etiquette, cell phones for children, cell phone accessories, and of course, cell phone competitive plans. The ease and flexibility that a cell phone now provides is contributing to the slow but eventual downfall to land line services. In the United Kingdom, it has been reported that the number of working cell phones actually out number the latest census.
Cell phone technology has leapt forward and a tremendous growth has only led to more competition. It will be interesting to watch the cell phone industry continuously make improvements and create developments that will lead to more user friendly cell phone features.

Cell Phone Usage is on the Rise
Cell phone usage is on the rise. More people are becoming comfortable relying on cell phones and continuing to replace landlines with them. A study conducted among 878 MyOpinionNow.com panelists gives insight on the usage of and the reliance on cell phones in the United States.
This research focuses on the use of cell phones, and in specific the use of internet on cell phones. As cell phones are becoming more sophisticated people are able to communicate at their fingertips in a multitude of ways. Cell phones are no longer just for making phone calls. They now serve as a personalized portable device enabling users to better interact with others and the cell phone itself. With a plethora of capabilities, cell phones can be used for the internet, to text, to chat, to take and share photos, to email, to browse the internet, to play games, to navigate directions while driving, to check movie times, as well as stocks, weather, traffic, etc. The possibilities are infinite.
This study by MyOpinionNow.com reveals that 87% of people currently own and use a cell phone. That means that just over 1 in 10 people do not own one. One in five people no longer use a traditional landline and rely only on their cell phone. Nearly one third of the under 35 age group use only a cell phone in comparison to the nearly one in five from the 35-49 age group and the nearly one in ten from the 50 and older age group.
MyOpinionNow.com reports that approximately half (49%) of cell phone users have access to the internet from their cell phones. Only 33% of them claim to never access the internet from their cell phone. 45% access the internet from their cell phone at least occasionally. Those who use the internet from their cell phones most often tend to be younger. Additionally, more men than women tend to use the internet from their cell phone—52% of men and only 43% of women use the internet from their cell phone at least occasionally, while 57% of women and 48% of men rarely or never access the internet from their cell phone.
Across all age and gender demographics, email is the primary reason for using the internet from a cell phone for about 66% of the people interviewed. Next up, about 49% say they use the internet from their cell phones to kill time when bored. The reasons following were to check weather, browse websites, check movie times, check stocks, and other. For all reasons other than email, answers varied across age and gender demographics. Specific percentages can be viewed by downloading the MyOpinionNow.com report.
This research indicates that 19% of the people interviewed use only a cell phone. This number has increased significantly from previous years, and continues to grow. The convenience of a cell phone can not be argued. The cell phone has come a long way since it was first introduced. This tiny tool can be used in so many different ways, it would be no surprise if it replaces more than just landlines.

Cell phone plans: The Best One for You
Cell phone has evolved to be one of the most important part of life. Most businesses require their officers to have a cell phone. Even individuals need cell phones in going about their daily lives. This is why acquiring this important gadget require intelligence to avoid inappropriate expense. Finding the most reasonable cell phone plan is one requirement in choosing cell phones intelligently. Because of the very large number of network services in this country, it may help you to research and assess their offers before deciding on a cell phone plan.
Before you decide to buy a cell phone, you may want to decide first whether you want a prepaid cell phone service or a traditional cell phone plan. If you decide on a prepaid cell phone service, then no problem, no credit check, you just need to pay outright and immediately you have your phone. Some cell phone companies even offer free cellular phone unit when you acquire a prepaid cell phone service from them. However, when you want a cell phone plan, you may need to choose from a by minute charging or by the second charging. Both charging process have positive and negative points. You need to assess your usage frequency and requirements before you decide on a cell phone plan. You may research on the performance like if they have enough towers to reach you wherever you are. There are different cell phone plans for family and national use. There are also cell phone plans for regional use. All of these have their own benefits although there are also their disadvantages. For prepaid cell phone plans, there are cell phone units that may not have the capability for this connection.
Other cell phone plans like family plans, this is advantageous for family use and small businesses. There is free access for emergencies. In addition, for family plans, it is cheaper to call the other cell phones included in one billing. There are also discounts for the airtime usage of family members using this cell phone plan. For national plans, this cell phone plan includes free long-distance charges. There are no roaming charges for this cell phone plan and it is another advantage. For regional use, this cell phone plan may require you to pay long-distance charges but the airtime rates may be cheaper.
Cell phone plans may be beneficial is you can acquire the once that have the benefits you need. The manner of usage is an essential requirement, if you do not need it as much and just for emergencies, prepaid cell phone plan could suit you well than traditional plans where you need to sign a contract with the service provider.
Prepaid cell phone plans are often preferred; however, for travelers the traditional plan with no roaming charges and no long-distance charges might be best.
All of this notwithstanding, in order to make full and effective use of your cell phone, you may want to set some guidelines in your usage. If you want your cell phone for your business, you may need to make sure you turn it off when you need privacy. Being available every time may not do well for you. Reserve sometime for yourself and never allow people to disturb you during this time. If your business partners know they could reach you even late at night and on weekends, they will be annoyed if you suddenly change this behavior. Having a cell phone and being available all the time may not be healthy, thus, you have to be wary not to allow people disturb you when you need to be alone with or without your cell phone.
